I bought a Gateway laptop w/ Vista OS. A program I need for work is only compatible w/ XP. Is it possible to change from Vista to XP. Someone told me that Vista can work in an ';XP Mode'; . is this true? If so, how do you convert it? I have VistaBasic.Can a Vistal OS be changed to an XP OS? I have a VIsta OS on my new laptop but need to change to an XP OS?
First, you can't dual-boot. To dual-boot, you would have to install XP first. You already have Vista installed. You also couldn't go back and forth between OS's without restarting. Second, Vista is a whole lot better than XP. It takes some getting used to, but I like it a whole lot better. I run into the compatibility problem at work a lot. Just because Vista says it's not compatible, doesn't necessarily mean it's not. Try it, you can always take it off.
However, all this being said, my suggestion is to add memory and install Microsoft Virtual PC with XP. You can run the program on virtual PC right from your Vista desktop. vista cannot work as xp...but you can change your program compatability by right clicking the file and click run as compatability with xp. if it works fine go ahead. you cannot change it to xp.you must reinstall the OS and all applications.U cannot change the OS from vista to xp since you can only upgrade ur OS from lower to higher version.Better to try in compatibality mode.most programs works by that way...
Yes. Vista offers a dual boot solution. Just put in an XP disk and vista should ask if you want a dual boot system. Don't override the Vista sys though or your support won't be good with Gateway.

Vista always wants to load as primary but there is a way to turn that off.
