How can I change from mac os x 10.3.9 to mac os x 10.4.1?
I want to change from 10.3.9 to 10.4.1 bacause it is compatible with the new ipod software. I tried to see if i can update it on apple downloads but i can't find it and i don't know if i'm able to. Apple is soon to release Leopard, however sometimes it's better to wait until they get the bugs out before buying.
I run Tiger on my Mac G4, 500 MHz machine, and it runs great. So, it should run fine on your iMac G5.

You can buy XP but you will have to wipe the HD because windows is not backward compatable. There is no way to go from Vista to XP. But once the HD is wiped you can load XP.

You need to access your BIOS and make sure that your Hard Drive is configured properly.

I have an old Mac G4 that runs on OS 8.6--I am wanting to upgrade to OS X because I can't upload my Sony CyberShot camera, use my Lacie D2 DVD burner etc. on it. I'm not sure if I should, because I also have a bunch of older versions of programs like Quark Xpress 3.3, Photoshop 5.02 and Illustrator 8.0 that I don't want to lose--does anyone know if those will still work if I change the OS? IBM thinkpad a21m
Windows 2000 installed on it
1. Is this enough?
2. How long will it take to boot up?
3. I don't have admin access on my pc - can I still install OVER
windows 2000?
4. I have never used linux - how easy is it? I only intend to use it for internet, chat.
5. Is Ubuntu for me?
6. Am I missing anything?
7. Will a netgear card work with it? Or will I need to run a wire?
8. The resolution is really really low - so low it is almost unworkable with. Will the new OS change that or does it have to do with the hardware?
I am sure I will have more questions, will post later :)

It is as easy or easier than windows. You do have a limit of software that can be run but that is changing. Linux, unlike windows, is not Bloatware and runs with minimal resources. I had linux loaded on a PII with 256 mb ram and 20gb drive.....takes about 1 minute or so to load......get more ram and things will move MUCH faster.
Also, you can get ';Wine'; which is a package that will allow you to run windows applications under the Linux OS.
Go ahead......plenty of help on online forums and newsgroups and on their site!

I have been a Linux user for 3 years and I don't miss Microsoft one bit... Now be aware, there are only a few windows games and programs that will work with Linux. I've setup terminal services in a LAN on a Win2000 server. I'm not sure about using XP as a server. It could work, but to be safe, I'd suggest Win2000 or Win2003 server.
As for the terminal nodes, unless you use specialised hardware terminals, I'm not sure you can boot up from the network without a lot of heavy-duty customisation. Even if you provide designated space on the server for the o/s and individual config files, how would you setup the computer hardware to access the server with no login and authentication?

I have a VGN-FZ190 sony Laptop.
I already Tried All the ways and still couldnt find some way to do it.
It keeps says there is no hard disk on your system(which means i need a third party disk to do so).
so i got all the drivers especially sata drive but i donno how to use that driver to identify the hard disk and continue to install it.

If you want to keep anything that's on it make sure you back it up to CD or DVD or and external drive first.

Insert windows xp cd in the Optical drive. Now restart the computer.

If not prompted, restart the computer and press the appropriate key to go to BIOS. If u have Intel original motherboard, press F2, if u have IBM branded pc then press F1 or Esc, or if u have mercury board press Del key to enter setup.
Now when it shows the available previous partitions in the hard disk, select the drive where Operationg system is available. Now press Enter.
Now quick format the drive with NTFS file system.
After all this just follow the instructions provided on the screen.
