Is there any way to make a bootable iso with the files that didn't copy? If not, how can I fix this?Unable to change Vista OS to XP; now computer won't turn on..?
If your comp can't turn on at all, forget about bootable ISOs. Take it to a repair shop.

Otherwise, many Vista users have complained that they can't install XP in dual-boot (or sometimes even just revert to XP). I'm unsure why, but Microsoft feel like breaking your balls and making you keep the new OS. (This is what I heard back during the beta, unsure if it is true now.)Unable to change Vista OS to XP; now computer won't turn on..?
Use a backup you made of the XP installation, before you tried Vista.

  • How can i change which os to boot from in a dual boot system?

So I decided to install Windows XP on another drive on a computer that has Windows Vista pre-installed. Each time I start my comp. it starts on windows XP. How can i change the boot drive so the other drive that I'm running Vista on starts up?

I have no prob with XP it's just that when i installed it, there were no drivers that came with it so i cannot connect to the internet. If anyone can help out with that then please do.How can i change which os to boot from in a dual boot system?
If I understand you correctly then you will need to use BCDEdit to change the boot configuration

    1) start the Vista system and log on.

    2) Start a command prompt as an administrator

    3) In command prompt type

    bcdedit /default {current}

Can a Vistal OS be changed to an XP OS? I have a VIsta OS on my new laptop but need to change to an XP OS?

I bought a Gateway laptop w/ Vista OS. A program I need for work is only compatible w/ XP. Is it possible to change from Vista to XP. Someone told me that Vista can work in an ';XP Mode'; . is this true? If so, how do you convert it? I have VistaBasic. Can a Vistal OS be changed to an XP OS? I have a VIsta OS on my new laptop but need to change to an XP OS?
First, you can't dual-boot. To dual-boot, you would have to install XP first. You already have Vista installed. You also couldn't go back and forth between OS's without restarting. Second, Vista is a whole lot better than XP. It takes some getting used to, but I like it a whole lot better. I run into the compatibility problem at work a lot. Just because Vista says it's not compatible, doesn't necessarily mean it's not. Try it, you can always take it off.

However, all this being said, my suggestion is to add memory and install Microsoft Virtual PC with XP. You can run the program on virtual PC right from your Vista desktop. It's a free download, you just need the XP license. Search Microsoft.com.Can a Vistal OS be changed to an XP OS? I have a VIsta OS on my new laptop but need to change to an XP OS?
vista cannot work as xp...but you can change your program compatability by right clicking the file and click run as compatability with xp. if it works fine go ahead. you cannot change it to xp.you must reinstall the OS and all applications.U cannot change the OS from vista to xp since you can only upgrade ur OS from lower to higher version.Better to try in compatibality mode.most programs works by that way...
Yes. Vista offers a dual boot solution. Just put in an XP disk and vista should ask if you want a dual boot system. Don't override the Vista sys though or your support won't be good with Gateway.

I have a quad boot system. Vista, XP, 2000, 98

Vista always wants to load as primary but there is a way to turn that off.
No such thing as far as I know

How do I change the OS of mu computer?

I have a computer that has an OS of Windows Vista Home Basic

and I don't like it because it needs alot of requirements to run a game

like 1GB RAM while for XP needs only 512MB and things like that

And it keeps hanging like when I'm gonna shut down my computer it configures the updates I just installed but it will just stay there for an hour and its not finished. And after that I had no choice but to ';force'; shut down it by holding the on/off button. The next thing I knew it got corrupted. So I gotta reformat it, but it will revert back to Windows Vista. I just realized that Vista has alot of bugs, fortunately i have a Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2, but i don't know how to install it.

Pls help me install this OS

pls give me a detailed, step by step procedure like when I do this what will come out or what should i press etc.

I plan to change my laptop's OS from Vista Home Edition to XP. How can I go about it? More details inside.

For lack of space, here are the rest of the details. I have an HP Pavillion laptop, 17'; monitor, Altec-Lansing integrated speakers, Integrated WebCam and Microphone (HP branded), full keyboard (with the keypad), and it has a mouse (Synaptics TouchPad, I believe), AMD Athlon 64x2, Windows Vista Home Edition (Microsoft's Biggest Mistake since Windows 2000), nVIDIA GeForce GO... 6500 I think, and also 1 GB of RAM. It also has HP QuickPlay buttons (those that you touch for volume and such). How do I go about changing the OS to XP Home/Professional (I know how, but with all these things...) without the laptop losing its functionality? I've had it with Vista. Thank you!

PS: People with rants and useless suggestions WILL be reported. Thank you for your understanding.I plan to change my laptop's OS from Vista Home Edition to XP. How can I go about it? More details inside.
If the computer came with vista then the only way to accomplish the change is to go out and buy a copy of XP. Most stores still carry the retail version and will run you about $199.00. Some people will suggest ebay but I will recommend against it. Simply put that if its on ebay then you dont truely know if the prodect key has been used or not. The only way to know and be safe is to buy it from a store so you can see it for yourself. The functionality of your computer should not be lost. You might need to go the HP web site and download the software (for free) for the specific functions like the touch volume controls. But most everything else should function as normal.I plan to change my laptop's OS from Vista Home Edition to XP. How can I go about it? More details inside.
First of all, Windows 2000 was a VERY good operating system. Prior to XP it was Mircosoft's most reliable and stable ever.

As for your question. What you need to do is a clean install. You'll first want to backup all you files - burn to cd or dvd, or transfer to an external HDD.

Most importantly, make sure you have a Windows XP complete install disk. And a valid XP license code.

After backing up your files, put the XP disk in your cd/dvd drive and reboot the computer. When given the option, you'll want to book from the CD. Then follow the steps to reformat your HDD and install Windows XP.
Maaaan that sucks. I dont think u can downgrade your windows to XP. But u can format c:\ and installing a fresh copy of XP on it. But youll lose functionality.
    oh no, report me? lol

do you have an xp disk?

you can get xp-home-upgrade, but you need a win98 or ME disk.

you can wipe the disk clean and install xp.

just insert xp-cd, look for delete partition, and start clean.

then go to hp-website and get new drivers.

    MIKE
To downgrade from Vista what is needed is a copy of Windows XP disc(version you want). You need to format the hard drive completely before you can install XP. First thing I would do is look for XP drivers for all the hardware you have, hardest thing would most likely be finding the drivers for the HP QuickPlay Buttons. Sometimes they could still work but not have any onscreen effect like my Logitech keyboard without the drivers installed for it. Of course the first place I would search would be HP's website. I am sure that the same laptop had been sold with XP installed on it and most likely will have all drivers needed there. Try using the ';Start detection'; for a driver search but doubt that will work unless you installed XP first. Having your computers exact model would have helped me, I may have been able to look for all the drivers needed for you.
First, you get your Vista backup disk ready in case you want it back. If you can identify all of the drivers for your hardware from your hardware list, get them ready on a media. The XP full installation will take a while, but after all those hard drive work, you have to install the hardware through XP. First make sure the network card is working and you have Internet connection after the installation. Then install hardware one by one if the XP installation miss any. Once you get all of the hardware and drivers in synch, you have a pretty fast computer in hand. It is a long and not so fast work, good luck!
why are you changing from vista to xp man???????????????

its good try it for some time................

if you still want to change than.........take xp cd and boot form it rest of the tasks would be shown by the set up .............

follow the instruction and install new xp

How to change vista os from 32 bit to 64 bit with a dvd from microsoft that has a part number x14-33786-01?

i spoke to microsoft and gave them my product key from my vista home premium upgrade from XP and for $9.95 they sent me a dvd that says replacement disc , includes service pack 1 and disc contains software only , with no instructions and is this my OS 64 bit . do i need to do like a clean install and what are the steps i take if this is a complete OS 64 bit, it came from microsoft.com/windowsvista/1033/ordermed?, its reads windows vista home premium also DVD and replacement disc and that it has SP1 and disc contains 64 bit software only , what do i need to do ? signed frustrated , i hope somebody can make sense out of what i saidHow to change vista os from 32 bit to 64 bit with a dvd from microsoft that has a part number x14-33786-01?
Unfortunately you cannot upgrade from 32bit windows to 64bit windows without doing a re-install. Recommendation would be to back-up all your personal data to DVD's or an external device then do a fresh installation of vista by booting directly from the new vista disk and formatting the partition when prompted.

Yes, you can make the bigger drive as your Master/bootable drive. However, to be bootable, the OS on that drive should be an installed OS and not just a copied OS from the old drive. How do I change my OS from one hard drive to another?

What should I change my OS to (windows Xp, Linux, something else)?

hello I recently changed from XP to windows 7 but it is the most worthless peice of crap (way to slow) i know its only slow because of my ram (512mb) so i was wondering should i go back to windows XP or should i swich to a linux distrebution if linux which one? I would really like to try running a mac OS but im not sure it's possible with a pc.if it is could you explain how to. i have 160 gig hd. i would just like something that would run smoother then windows 7. please and thanksWhat should I change my OS to (windows Xp, Linux, something else)?
Advice from one grade 9 to another: with that RAM, I'd switch to Vista if you trust that the problems have been fixed (works fine for me) or just switch back to XP. Yes, Mac is a higher end OS but for user ease and overall quality I would stick with goo old Microsoft. Linux may be decent, but if I were to get it I would just use it as a dual-boot. No, stick with Vista or XP with your RAM. One other thing: get more RAM. You'll definitely be glad you did. What should I change my OS to (windows Xp, Linux, something else)?
Windows 7 is actually great. Much better than any other OS Microsoft has released. You do need more ram though. 512K is very low compared to what most PC come with today. It is also very cheap. You can pick up 2 gig for less than $100.00. You would see a HUGE difference in Windows 7 and I think you would probably like it.

Even XP with 512 is slow and crappy.
Why not just add more memory to your PC? XP will run better on 512MB than Win7 and Linux will run even better than XP. I like OpenSUSE. You can download a live CD to see how it runs on your PC before installing to the hard drive.
ubuntu linux should perform fairly in 51Meg if you are not doing alot of heavy graphics.

Try the live CD. One warning - the live CD is slow because CD drives are slow. You will have to install it to see the real speed.
Um windows 7 runs faster than any other operating system i have ever seen. From the amount of ram you have all i can say is its time to get a new computer. My personal favourite is linux. Linux is just uber theres just not a lot of stuff compatable with it, which sucks. Do you have the full version of windows 7 or just the beta. The beta has so many bugs its mind boggling. Try upgrading to the full version and getting more ram lol. My computer loads from start to applications in like 30 or so seconds with windows 7. Faster then any of my other operating systems.
Linux is the only answer. It will run on any pile of crap.(that's what you have)

Don't bash an OS by trying to run it on a machine that is incompatible and then complaining it doesn't work for you.
Actually, windows 7 should run smoothly and quickly, just change your RAM, you need at least 1GB of RAM for windows 7 to run properly, the following website http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11489087%26amp;whse=BC%26amp;Ne=4000000%26amp;eCat=BC|84|20522|62019|76339%26amp;N=4026018%26amp;Mo=4%26amp;pos=2%26amp;No=0%26amp;Nr=P_CatalogName:BC%26amp;cat=76339%26amp;Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1%26amp;lang=en-US%26amp;Sp=C%26amp;ec=BC-EC9-Cat20522%26amp;topnav= TELLS YOU WHAT REQUIREMENTS ARE NEEDED for windows 7 to run well. I know this because I'm going to upgrade to windows 7 because of all the good ratings like on CNET.com (good website for reviewing technology) and I have 512 RAM so on Black Friday, I'm going to buy windows 7, a 2gb RAM and an larger harddrive. Check it out, windows 7 is a good OS.
Ubuntu 9.10 should be your choice.
Try Puppy Linux ,great for older computers with low ram.I am really a novice but even I was able to burn the cd and get it up and running on my old laptop in no time at all,and all for free! Here are some sites to help you get started!Good Luck!

    http://www.puppylinux.com/

    http://www.puppylinux.org/main/index.php
Yeah, I agree with the others. You need to upgrade your ram 1st. Some older computers will only hold 512 or 1gig of ram. If your ram is maxed out at 512- then you need to go back to xp.

If you can add more ram, then you may like w7 better.

If you are just not happy with windows.....I highly recommend Linux Ubuntu 9.10. But it would do better with more ram.

1 gig is just about the minimum for a modern OS.

If you would put up the specs on your computer...some of these nice compugeeks will be happy to advise you.
Your best bet is Ubuntu Karmic Koala (9.10). Works like a champ and supports Windows Media files and other programs you are used to such as Adobe. It is incredibly easy and has incredible documentation.

PS - No matter what you do you absolutely should get more RAM. You will see a huge performance boost. You will need to match it to the original type (both DDR-{NumericValue} and PC {NumericValue} are important and must match exactly to the original). Just get larger RAM chips that support those two and you'll be set for an awesome experience.
If you had used the free Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, before you installed W7, you would have known that your PC needed additional RAM:

So, without knowing your PC's specs, the smart thing to do is to bump your RAM to at least 2 GBs, and give Windows 7 a second chance. 2 GB of DDR2 RAM, if your motherboard supports it, is less that $ 40 at Tigerdirect. ca. XP SP3 would run way better, too.

Try LinuxMint 7, you'll fall in love with it! It runs ';not too badly'; with 512 MB RAM, but more RAM is always better. I HAPPILY use it on 5 of 6 of my computers.
It is not realistic to expect Windows 7 to run well on 512mb RAM

Upgrade your RAM to 2gb and you will soon change your mind about Windows 7

    RECOMMENDED LINUX DISTRO.

I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 7 Main Edition which is built upon Ubuntu 9.04 Its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled

You download the ISO. image of Linux Mint 7 then you need to create a Bootable LiveCD for installation

Linux Mint 7 can also be run direct from the LiveCD from Booting up without touching your Hard Drive

    INSTALL LINUX MINT WITHIN WINDOWS

Linux Mint has a feature called mint4win based on the Wubi installer (Ubuntu) http://wubi-installer.org/ which enables you to install Linux Mint within windows (Windows 7 run mint4win in vista compatability mode)

You keep Windows as it is, mint4win only adds an extra option to boot into Linux Mint. mint4win does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader, and does not install special drivers. It works just like any other application.

mint4win like Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and if you do not like it, you can simply uninstall it as any other application.

Boot in to windows insert the LiveCD you have just created and you will offered the option of installing inside windows which is where mint4win comes in, you will be asked how many gigabytes you wish to allocate to Linux Mint (I recommend 8gb) then you set a password for your installation then click install and thats it.

Once Linux Mint is fully installed upon starting your PC you will be given a choice of which operating system you want to use Windows or Linux Mint.

Don't do things backwards. First save all your important data files to a USB drive.

Install WinXP on partition 1, 12 gigs, ntfs format

Reinstall your apps and data and make sure everything works like before.

    Install Mepis v 8.0 on partion 2, 6 gigs, ext3

Make partion 3, 1 gig, linux swap

    Logical Partiton 5, 60 gig, ext3 to mount /home

Logical Partition6, what's left, FAT32, drive D: on windows and /Data on linux.

Mepis will install grub in the boot sectors of the hard drive and will be set up to give you a choice between winows and linux. Make sure everything works.

    From windows,

Make copies of your data files to D:/

    From Mepis Linux

Find the applications that will work with your data files.

Become comfortable with the menus, how to shut down and boot up, how to do backups to your USB drive, how to find and load new applications. Hook up printers. Attach to wireless networks. Burn CDs Get your yahoo or google mail.

As time goes by, note what you use in Windows and find Linux applications that do what you need. The linux application will might do only part of what the windows one does, but if it does what you need.

My windows partition is used for a web application that will only run under Explorer, and for an encrypted USB drive whose windows-only software must be used at work.

Look for a Linux application call Euler. It will help with your math homework. It is a super-calculator that does algebra, too.

Sell your Win7 CD to a buddy or keep it for when you get a dual core processor, 500 gig drive and 4 gig of memory. You may want to look at student priced versions of Word and Excel. Most are for college students, bu occasionally they are for high school students. Never upgrade an OS except for security patches and when you need an application that will not run without the upgrade.

When you get a new OS, get the hardware recommended for it. Ignore minimums; they are too optimistic.

If Mepis 8.0 overtaxes your machine, use Antix 8.2.
I agree with most of the answers... I would install Ubuntu Linux (and you can keep windows and make it a dual boot)

    ADVANTAGES LINUX :

    1) FREE (most versions are)

    2) Install software by either 1) Synaptic Package Manager, 2) Add/Remove 3) Opening a .deb or .rpm file (depending on distribution)

    3) It is FASTER/MORE SECURE to surf on the internet

    4) Some Windows programs work with Wnehq/Crossover (also avail on Mac, but why pay $$$)

Hi, I was thinking of doing this with boot camp but boot camp is only in Mac OS 10.5 so what should I do?How to change Mac OS X 10.2.8 to windows XP? in Imac G3?
You can't easily do it, but it can be done. You can't change the MacOs X to Windows XP, but you can add it. (Why you would want to do it is beyond me though). First you need a Windows emulator, the best one to get is Virtual PC. It hasn't been made in a while, you can get an old copy on eBay. Then you put your own legal copy of XP on the Mac. You will need at least 512 mb of ram for this to work. You'll have both MacOs X and Windows XP, but they will run a bit slow. Bootcamp is only for Intel Macs. How to change Mac OS X 10.2.8 to windows XP? in Imac G3?
I may be wrong about this, but I believe the iMac G3 is a PPC processor. In otherwords, you can't put windows on there. Windows will only run on an x86 processor (yes, they started using PC processors, heaven forbid that be made clear though)

Ubuntu linux works for it though! If you have the RAM for OS X then you should have enough for that.

Err... I meant to say I might be wrong to say they _all_ are. I know they normally are PPC, and it probably won't work.
you must install boot camp first to be able to install windows on any mac if you have a pre intel mac this will not work. however you can eluminate windows with virtual PC software.

What I would do, is get the XP installation going, then on ANOTHER computer, download the drivers. You should be able to get them from Sony's download center. Make sure the XP disk you have is the ';Full Version';. You can't use ';upgrade';, considering the fact that it wouldn't be true.

    Hope this helps.

-ABC :)I have sony vaio VGN-N220E with vista. Want to migrate from Vista to XP. How to get drivers?
Back up your whole hard drive, and just install XP. If the drivers that come with XP don't suffice, then you will have to search around the internet. I would write down your current hardware configuration in vista as well. Unfortunately some hardware is vista only right now, so you may have to go with generic drivers or none at all in rare cases.

With your HDD backed up, you can always go back if things don't work out well.

Using Windows copy and paste is only good as long as no problems occur during the copy operation. You want to use the more robust ';robocopy'; program available from Microsoft's Windows 2003 Resource Kit, linked below. Robocopy will continue to copy if there are errors with files being opened, corrupt, etc.

Robocopy uses a command line to copy files and most people don't even know what a command line is, let alone how to use it. Follow the second link to download and use a graphical interface to Robocopy and you won't have to learn the command line version. The file you want to download is at the bottom of the article.

    Best of luck,

use the dos command like this, c:/copy doc*.*/d: enter. This shortcut command transfer a file from c: to D: or use the copy paste.

How do I change the default OS when I'm duel booting into Vista and Windows 7?

I run Vista and installed Windows 7 on a separate drive. At that point my PC started booting into Windows 7 by default, if I wanted to boot into Vista I had to tell the PC.

I've now removed Win 7 but the duel boot default still tries to boot into the non existent Win 7 by default. How do I change this so it boots automatically into Vista again?

Thanks for your help! How do I change the default OS when I'm duel booting into Vista and Windows 7?
    Start Vista

    Open the Start menu and select ';Run';

    Type in: msconfig

    Will open a configuration window

Go to the ';boot.ini'; tab of the window

You will see the file that controls the default OS

    There is a button that says ';Check all Boot Paths';

Running that will tell Vista to check the boot.ini to be sure all the paths on the menu are correct and working

When it finds that the Windows 7 is no longer there it will change the default to Vista for youHow do I change the default OS when I'm duel booting into Vista and Windows 7?

The OS that was installed by the technician in my PC was Windows XP Professional after it was reformatted. In order to upgrade my AVG antivirus, I was prompted to upgrade my OS to SP2. Windows Updates should install SP2 automatically (or manually, if Automatic updates is turned off) UNLESS your copy of XP Pro is an illegal version.

This may be the REAL problem.

If so, rip your technician a ';new one'; and buy a legal copy of XP, if your PC didn't include Recovery Disks.

Then, AVG will behave. How can I change the OS of my PC from Microsoft Windows XP Professional to Windows XP SP2?
just go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com, install any prerequisite updates, and then eventually you'll get the option to install servicepack 2 (it may go right past that to sp3, but you'll need to decide if you want to go with that since a small percentage of people have reported problems with it).
you won't need to re-install any drivers or software, just install service pack 2 and everything should work just fine

How do i change a computer processor?

Ok, basically I wan't to know how to change a computer processor and what changes I might have to do afterwards(for example: change my OS).

Thank you for your attention. How do i change a computer processor?
    1) Ensure the new CPU is compatible with this motherboard and BIOS version. Upgrade the BIOS if necessary. If there are any overclocking settings in the BIOS, remove them for now.

    2) Remove the heat sink assembly from the old CPU.

    3) Release the pins (usually by lifting a latch lever).

    4) Remove the old CPU. If you plan to re-use it, clean the heat sink compound off it and store it. Place the new CPU in the socket.

    5) Close the socket and latch the new CPU (usually by lowering a latch lever).

    6) If you are replacing the old heat sink, clean the compound off it. (Low-quality heatsink compound degrades over time. Even some high-quality heatsink compounds don't set properly if you reset them after they've already gone through many thermal cycles.)

    7) If the new CPU does not have heatsink compound on it, apply a thin layer over the entire mating surface.

    8) If desired, tint the heat sink mating surface with heat sink compound. (Apply a very small amount to cover the mating area and then remove most of it with a lint-free cloth or clean coffee filter. This leaves the surface 'tinted' and fills microscopic valleys with heat sink compound.)

    9) With as little twisting as possible, mate the heat sink to the CPU and clamp it in place. (Twisting just causes the high spots on one side to gouge heat sink compound out of the low spots on the other, defeating the whole point of the compound.)

    10) Inspect to ensure the heatsink is sitting perfectly flat against the CPU. Connect the fan to the motherboard.

    11) Test for normal operation, test memory, and basically make sure everything is working.

    12) If desired, tweak BIOS settings and retest until satisfied.

    13) Do a ';full burn'; test and ensure the CPU does not get too close to its thermal limit.

Generally, no operating system changes are needed. The two exceptions would be:

    1) If you replaced a 32-bit only CPU with a 64-bit capable CPU and want to use a 64-bit operating system, a full OS reinstall is needed.

    2) If you replaced a single-core CPU with a multi-core CPU on an XP system, the HAL probably has to be changed. (A fairly simple process involving editing the boot.ini file, rebooting, and then editing it again.)How do i change a computer processor?
If you need to ask, its far too delicate an operation for you. Let someone with experience do it for you.

EDIT: If you just want to learn how, a change of processor is probably the most critical of the system. Hit some garage sales, go out on junk day, whatever you can do to find some old junk pcs and rip into them. You will catch on fast.
You need to match 3 things (I think)

    - Brand (Usually intel or AMD)

    - Cool it properly

    - match the ';pins'; (I can't think of the correct word, but you need a certain number and arrangement of pins).

You shouldn't need to reinstall anything.
you have to choose aprocessor that enters in the slot of the mother board of your computer for the soft you don't need to do changes it will be automatically detected
The compatablity of processors with mother board depends on 2 main things.

The first and important thing is Socket no. It will be written on the mother board where the processor fits.

Then the next thing is processor to which speed your motherboard will support.

You can first remove the heat sink. Then remove the lock of the processor, lift it and put a new processor and fit the new heat sink. You have to make sure that the arrow marked on the processor should be corresponding to the arrow on the motherboard.

No in most cases you dont have to do anything with your OS.
Look in the manual for your motherboard.

If you don't have a copy look for one on the internet.

If you don't know what your motherboard is find a System Information program to tell you (see source).

Basically you have to open your computer, unscrew and remove the fan that's on top of the processor, unlatch the processor's board and pull it out of its slot. Then replace it with a compatible alternative. You need to make sure you switch off the power (obviously) but also make sure you know about the dangers of static!
    Hope this helps
    its too complicated for you.

what you would need to do is to go to some computer shop like dse, noel leming or pb technologies and perhaps you have to play then a couple of 100 dollars and they'll do it for you.

You can't change a PC to a Mac, you have to actually buy a Mac computer.
well if it is a intel pc not a mac osx will not run on it under normal instances but maybe under linux
I don't think that you can run a Mac OS on a PC. You can do it the other way around on the new intel macs though.
Cant do it - buy a MAC to run OSX -
It is illegal to do that, but you can download OS X 10 from bit torrent or P2P and install it on an intel computer, it will work with a few minor glitches, but you will have major driver issues.

You should be able to connect directly to the router as long as you have a wire or wifi adapter going to the router and not the computer.

The Vista to XBOX usage is mainly for Media Center sharing protocol so you can stream Vista music to the XBOX.

Try connecting the XBOX wire directly to the router and not the computer or use a wifi connection with your password and see if you receive an internet connection.

What would be the best OS for ASUS EEEPC?

    hi there!

i just bought my asus eeepc. it has 4g internal flash memory and 512 ram. i am planning to change its OS and now im confused of what would be the best OS for it...that would not around eat 75% of its internal memory.

it is xp compatible and my personal choice was XP. how much memory would XP need?or the other OS?What would be the best OS for ASUS EEEPC?
it can run xp. i have seen one that does. xp uses about 1.5gb. Vista will not fit in there. the only problem is if you install xp, you have to install an anti virus software. why not try linux based Xubuntu? its very light on the system, runs blazingly fast, its free, upgradeable, customizable %26amp; you don't need any anti virus for it. in my own laptop, i have xp %26amp; xubuntu on my 80gb hard drive. i only allocate 5gb for Xubuntu %26amp; its more than enough for this wonderful OS. Xubuntu is based on the awrd winning OS Ubuntu. it uses Xfce instead of Ubuntu's Gnome desktop. That makes it very light %26amp; fast even on old systems. it requires only 128mb to run but you need to have a bout 200mb to install from live CD. If you want something thats a lot smaller, you can try puppy linux. its small enough to fit in a 256Usb flash drive. its great too. I have one too but i didn't install it in my machine. i just let it run from a flash drive or cd.What would be the best OS for ASUS EEEPC?
Go with XP PRO SP2...this is the fastest Windows OS %26amp; two times faster than Vista Ultimate.

Vista eats tons of resources and memory %26amp; even tweaked pales in comparison when it comes to speeds...

Simple answer: don't bother. Linux is a sophisticated and capable operating system but it is not for the novice. In any case, your applications will not work on Linux and you will need new ones, at least not without a _lot_ of highly advanced jiggery-pokery in Wine or various other methods of running Windows apps under Linux that may or may not do what you want.

The nature of what you want to do is so far removed from your apparent skill level that without wishing to denigrate your abilities I would forget the idea now while you still have a functional machine.Hi i want to change my os on my laptop?
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Instal has instructions.

Software designed to run under Windows will not run under Linux (at least not without using emulation, e.g. via WINE, which won't give as good results (if it works at all)).

You will need to format your hard disk or SSD. If you want to keep your data (images, music, etc) then back it up first (e.g. to a USB hard disk / memory stick or across a network) and copy it back afterwards.
Sorry, but if you're new to the whole computer thing and don't want geek talk then you're really going to hate Linux.

If you really want to go through with this, you're going to need USB CD burner and a USB hard drive for backing up your data. Download and burn a Linux ISO, back up your data, format the HD, install Linux, and copy your data back.
hmm linux is a good choice, linux operating systems are free downloadable but after downloading they have to burned into a CD or DVD then they require boot from it to begin installation
I could not agree with Andrew S. more.

Those netbooks are ';as you buy it'; machines meaning they are not designed to be upgraded or changed.
Follow the instructions here to try out Linux running from a USB to see if you like it before you commit to wiping your windows installation.

    http://www.pendrivelinux.com/usb-linux-m
if u r a newby to this OS stuff i'd say do not bother coz linux is not even for those half wits.

    BUT if u insist,

i'd suggest u do these things:

Get a USB external cd/dvd drive

set first boot device to USB

BUT before u can go any further, make your hard drive a RAW format so might want to back everything up first.

insert the Linux dvd and run the installation..

though i strongly urge u to have professional supervision while u r upto it.

Apple's operating systems (mac, snow leopard, etc) won't run on a PC so you can't use them. Try Linux instead. How to change from windows 7 to the latest mac os X?
In a nutshell, you can't. If you have an Intel or AMD based x86 motherboard, Mac OSX will not install on your machine.

There are solutions out there for getting Mac OSX running on an Intel based platform, using virtual machine software. Search for VMWare and a Mac OSX VMware image. However, you will still require a Windows OS installation to run on top of it.

But, please backup all your data because I am not sure 100% it will work.
It's NOT always possible unless you have an edition Windows that supported multiple languages, e.g. Windows 7 Ultimate. The language settings on Home / Pro versions usually do not help much. I have one computer in Korean and another in English. If you change the language settings to English on the Korean computer, you still won't be able to read that much.

Change enter os timer? disable express gate?

hi i have asus p5p43td mobo and in bios under tools tab i have an option called enter os timer set to 10 sec. in description on the right it says its the time that system waits at express gate before windows starts i was wondering is it safe to change this to like 3 secs? how will it effect ?

and also how can i disable express gate and directly launch windows?Change enter os timer? disable express gate?
I also have an ASUS mobo with this feature.

ExpressGate is the screen that comes up before windows starts loading. It is an OS in itself which is supposed to allow you to get on the interenet really fast if you are in a hurry, but windows 7 boots fast enough in my opinion.

It is safe to reduce the timer. It simply determines how long the ExpressGate screen will stay up before it boots windows.

To disable ExpressGate, there is an option you can select in the BIOS that will keep it from show and it will boot right into windows.

I never use ExpressGate myself.Change enter os timer? disable express gate?
    its easy

in that part of the bios set the time to 0,

    OR

DISABLE.EXPRESS GATE, its not worth the hassle,

this splash screen is just a fancy boot menu that default on windows after x seconds, the express gate is a linux os.

asus dummies added that small ssd for purly marketing reasons.

    I always disable it.

    (built 100's of them)

How do I change my Operating System safely?

I got a computer with Vista on it and would like to put XP on it instead. I have my XP install disc, I'm just not sure what to do from there.

A friend said that if I try to install it without first getting rid of Vista, my OS can crash whenever I introduce new hardware. How do I avoid that; how can I change my OS safely? How do I change my Operating System safely?
Keep in mind that this can be a complex process. XP is 8 years old and doesn't support a lot of modern hardware. Before you start, download XP drivers for every piece of hardware in your system. This includes motherboard and controller drivers - XP doesn't have built in support for SATA drives because XP predates SATA. If you don't find XP drivers for the SATA controller, XP won't be able to install because it will insist you don't have a hard drive. There are other similar potential bombs waiting for you along the way.

Once you have the drivers, you'll need to format your hard drive. You will lose everything on there, including files and applications. Any application that came with the PC probably won't transfer to XP, since it's designed for Vista. Just boot off the XP CD, tell it to delete the Vista partition, create a new partition and format it as NTFS and follow the instructions. How do I change my Operating System safely?
your friend is wrong, when you boot off the xp disc, the first option is to format the current drive so that it can install. when you do that, vista is gone forever.

I using Windows XP in my PC. So i need to change my OS XP into Windows 7 but it is in my Hard disk. Please help me how can i format my PC when OS in Hard disk? How to format when os in hard disk?
Hav u lost ur original disc or its just 30 days trail image u hav downloaded???

As u dont hav it in a disc so u will not be able to install ';Microsoft Windows 7'; by booting ur PC....The only option u hav is to run the setup from ur existing windows (';Microsoft Windows XP';)

Now all u hav to do is run the setup. If u hav the disc image then mount it on a virtual drive. If u dont hav any virtual drive then download ';Daemon Tools'; - http://www.daemon-tools.cc/downloads/dtp

Now mount the image on ';Deamon Tools'; %26amp; close the Autorun Menu...Now open ';My computer';, right click on the virtual drive (Windows 7 Disc) %26amp; select open....Copy all files in a folder %26amp; run the Setup (SETUP.EXE)....

Now select ';Upgrade'; to install it over ';Microsoft Windows XP'; - http://www.freeimagehosting.net/image.ph

U can also select ';Custom (Advanced)'; installation %26amp; when the partition selection option will come click on on a different drive to keep both the OS (';Microsoft Windows XP'; %26amp; ';Microsoft Windows 7';) - http://www.freeimagehosting.net/image.ph

Now if u hav all the files in a folder just open the folder %26amp; run the file named ';SETUP.EXE'; %26amp; rest of all r the same....

Now if u hav a image u can also burn it in a DVD to enable the ';Boot from DVD'; feature. Then insert ur ';Microsoft Windows 7'; disc into ur optical drive (DVD Drive) %26amp; boot from it by restarting ur PC.......How to format when os in hard disk?
you can upgrade your xp to 07.
Hi friend.you want to change booting device in CMOS/BIOS setup. now it may be the boot from cd drive but you have to change.

first boot device should be hard disk

second boot device should be cd drive

%26amp; save your configuration what you have changed %26amp; restart the system.

now your windows 7 in hard disk will detected %26amp; boot

afterwards you follow the instruction %26amp; install.

Swapping Hard Disk Drives & changing OS?

My laptop recently died on me. I guess i was pretty careless with it and now it's just useless. I went to a local Laptop Repair Shop, and the guy said there was no point in wasting the HDD, so he took it out of the laptop and put it into something i think he called a Caddy. I can now use it as an external hard drive. It's meant to be 120GB, but only ever recognises 111GB, but that's not my problem.

My problem is i'm planning to buy a second hand laptop soon. It's 2GB of RAM, which would do me nicely because if i'm honest i'm only using the laptop for very basic of things like word processing, MSN, ebay and photo editing, nothing big like Gaming, but the Hardrive is only 40GB and i just think that's too small. Would i be able to swap my old Hardrive for this one? How would i go about doing that?

The second hand laptop i'm possibly buying is also Windows XP, which, contrary to popular belief, is horrible to use. I hate the way it feels; i'm too used to Vista. Would i be able to replace it with Vista, and how would i do that?Swapping Hard Disk Drives %26amp; changing OS?
It depends, as far as the hard drive. Hard drives come with different connectors, i.e. PATA, SATA, SCSI, and the laptop you're getting might no have the kind of connector in it for the kind of hard drive you have. One way to find out what kind of hard drive you have is to take it out of whatever the guy put in and look at the information on the sticker attached to hard drive--it might say if it's a SATA or ATA (i.e. PATA) on the outside. Then find out from whomever you're getting the 2nd-hand laptop what kind of hard drive it is, as well as if there are other hard drive slots on the laptop. But since you're using your hard drive as an external now, you should at least be able to keep using it as an external with the ';new'; laptop.

You can get the laptop, get a Vista software installation disc and then upgrade from XP to Vista. Those discs are usually expensive, though (assuming you're not buying bootleg copies, which may or may not work). I prefer XP, so which one is better is a personal opinion thing.Swapping Hard Disk Drives %26amp; changing OS?
You are right about the operating system. After you use Vista for a while,XP feels like a Micky Mouse OS.Unfortunately ,you can transfer all your personal files from drive to drive but not the operating system. You have to call the computer makers and request the OS DVD.Even if you want to keep the dead XP it won't boot on the new computer because it has hardware info on the registry from another computer. You'll have to reinstall .

How can I change My operating system from a Vista to a Mac?

Is there a disc With Leopard or whatever Macbooks run that you can install onto your computer to turn it into a Mac os? Like you can with bootcamp on macbooks. Or when u buy a Disc from the shops with Vista and that on it that u then put onto your computer to change its os?How can I change My operating system from a Vista to a Mac?
I haven't tried it, but here's the link:How can I change My operating system from a Vista to a Mac?
Don't use Mac OS. Please. Read an article on OSes and use Linux if you don't like windows.
It's possible but it's illegal. It's a violation of Apple's licensing. It is also a major hacking job that requires you really know what you are doing. In other words, it's a headache you don't want to do unless you are a person who likes messing around with how computers work and has a good grasp of all the sort of things involved. There is no way to directly buy Leopard and just install it on a PC, it won't work. And if you figure out one of the hacks, there is no guarantee your computer will work right, nor will you be able to get any help from Apple. You will be running the risk that your computer will become a useless box.

If you want Mac, buy Mac and use Bootcamp to install Windows if you still must have that.

How can I change the BlackBerry 8320 OS to a multilingual version?

I'm looking how to change my BlackBerry OS to a multilingual (spanish) version. I've been looking online and have found OS versions for 8320 specifically, but none for multilingual. However, I've seen 8310 and 8300 versions that are multilingual, and I'm wondering if those are OK to install if there's no multilingual OS for 8320. Thanks! How can I change the BlackBerry 8320 OS to a multilingual version?
Oh, you could have a check to the Official forum, select the series name of your phone, and there are lots of people discussing, you may find your answer there.

http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/How can I change the BlackBerry 8320 OS to a multilingual version?
If you go to the Blackberry web site for the OS files, the versions available will be multi-language versions. The ';generic'; multi-language version does have support for most European languages, including Spanish. Don't download the East Asian language versions.

  • Lost a program cakewalk and original songs?

I changed OS, partitioned, and lost cakewalk and original songs made w the use of cakewalk. How to get it? Its too late for system restore or other such remedies. What can I do to find it on hard drive and get the songs back?Lost a program cakewalk and original songs?
try getting a recovery program there are some good ones on peer to peerLost a program cakewalk and original songs?
I haven't used this program myself but it might be worth a try: http://officerecovery.com/freeundelete/
As martpd says get a file recovery program, most of them work in the same way, The only thing you have lost at the moment is the pointer (address) to your file. It is possible that you have overwritten the file by now, but it can still be re-constructed using un-delete software. In future if you want to create new partions and keep your data back it up first or use a program called 'Partition Magic' which allows you to keep your data by moving it into the new locations. A good recovery program is:- http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/
Try Easy Recovery ver6. or newer. It is a great program that recovers deleted files even after formatting and partitioning.

But it doesn't guarantee you 100 % recover. It depends also if you made fragmentation after. If so do not expect to recover a lot.

I advise you to use advanced recover option.

Is there a detailed OS X Change log out there?

I'm looking for a site that gives a detailed and comprehensive list of the changes between each version of OS X (ie 10.1 to 10.2 to 10.3 etc.)

This would encompass both features and more importantly navigation changes (ie the evolution of the system preferences, so if I were to help someone over the phone repair their internet, how would the button positions and layouts differ from OS 10.3 to 10.4).

Thanks in advanced. Is there a detailed OS X Change log out there?
The function of preference files is similar in OS 9 and OS X, so I would say they have carried over for more than a decade. This is one of a dozen details about Mac OS 9 and earlier that made the transition to a UNIX-based system fairly smooth.

I don't know of anything from Apple that shows a chronology of Mac OS, but the link below is useful. Scroll down to the section ';Versions';.

I've used Mac OS almost daily from OS 7.5 to now and I can say that the differences you would encounter between 10.2 and 10.4 are so few as to be insignificant. Network setup is identical. The big difference is in the function that lies in the background. OS 10.4 can use more advances applications, most notably those related to video and audio. For 10.5, I would say there are a few advances in the ability to use advanced applications, but the big difference is in some important system functions, such as partitioning without erasing data, Time Machine, Cover Flow, and multi-touch keypad.

Even so, there are some minor differences in all major releases of OS X. I did telephone support for Apple for many years and I can assure you, 90 percent of the calls can be handled from one computer with the latest OS installed. The other ten percent require occasionally taking a look at older systems, so you would need at least three computers. For tech support today, you need to have the option to look quickly at 10.2, 10.4, and 10.5. Add a 10.3 system as a luxury.

Change my OS back to XP Pro from Vista Ultimate?

Iv Installed Ultimate on my laptop its a Freevents and i think its the biggest mistake iv made with computers over the last 5 yrs but now i carnt get XP back on iv got no boot disk cus when i brought the latop 6 months ago i was told that it was all on a hidden partition on my HD. Iv gone in to the system files and checked tryed to change the boot up OS but XP is no longer there on Vista any ideas on how to grt rid of this nightmare OS that nothin is compatable with?????Change my OS back to XP Pro from Vista Ultimate?
Vista is not the best of the products out there.

However, by reading your question, I think you are stuck with it, as probably the new operating system formatted and repartitioned the whole drive.

You will need to get a new copy of Windows XP, if you dont have a backup disk of sorts.Change my OS back to XP Pro from Vista Ultimate?
Call the manufacturer and see if you can order a boot disk. Otherwise, you might just have to buy XP ..I tried Vista but went back to XP myself
If you go to software4download.com you can download XP Pro complete with Product Key for US$53. I did 3-4 weeks ago
What problems are you having with Vista? I've been running it since it came out as I managed to buy a new laptop that week and had no choice.

I've leant to work with it and actually it's fine - all software I use has installed OK with no problems (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator etc), and the things I have had trouble with (like the software for my mobile and minidisc player), the companies concerned have emailed me new versions which are compatible with Vista. Even free stuff like Open Office works a treat. You do have to make sure to use Vista via an administrators account and turn off all the security settings or it won't let you do anything.

if you really want to get rid of it you'll most likely have to uninstall the OS and get discs for XP. You should have made yourself backup discs before installing Vista!
reformate your laptop and install XP again

    Two os in one desktop?

i see in a a film that someone use linux os to work (redhat i think), then without restarting computer he change OS with windows 2003, he only log on. then in his desktop there is two windows, the one is linux and other is windows. is it only a camera trick or real, if it real how to do thatTwo os in one desktop?
yes virtual box is what you need it is free to download and use

download it from the link belowTwo os in one desktop?
He must use VirtualPCs. This creates a concealed PC environment where you can install an OS. He could be in WindowsXP and have 2 VirtualPCs open, one with Windows 2003, and other with Fedora Redhat.
You can do Mac and Windows at the same time if you want on the newer Macs.
It is possible to use two different operating systems on one computer, but I have not tried this.

I want to change Vista OS to Linux on my Dell XPS, Please suggest how to do this?

And how to get Driver for the Linux OSI want to change Vista OS to Linux on my Dell XPS, Please suggest how to do this?
u havent specified which linux u want to install

for example fedora, redhat, ubuntu, etc

basically windows vista is based on NTFS file system

and linux is not compatible to it or support it,,,,,,,,,

becoz linux has its own file system,,,,,,,, hence u have to format urs pc or laptop to install linux in it,,,,,,

linux is good operating system when u want to stay away from virus problem,

for linux u dont have to install drivers,,,,,,,,,, generally it is driver independent,,,I want to change Vista OS to Linux on my Dell XPS, Please suggest how to do this?
    1. u need a distro

    http://www.kubuntu.org

    2. you need to put the distro onto a cd

    3. you need to boot your pc with the distro on

    4. you need to decide if you want it to own your hd (be the only OS on there) or share with another OS so you can pick which one you boot to each time you start your pc

    5. if u want to share, you need to repartition your hard drive into 4 partitions: 1 ntfs (windows) 1ext3 (linux root) + 1 ext3 (linux home) +1 linux swap

    6. If you just want linux, just tell it to automatically set the partitions when you boot with the cd in and select install, unlless you want separate partition for /home in which case tell it to do that. the advantage over having all your documents and program settings on their own partition is that if ever you need to reinstall linux, everything of that ilk stays in tact on its own partition. its an easy way to recover your system without having to set everything up from scratch.

    7. Linux doesn't have 'drivers' as such in the same way as windoze. your best bet is to google ';xps (model number) linux install'; and see how other people fared. in a lot of cases linux will work 'out of the box' because the kernel contains most of the hardware recognition it needs. When it doesn't though, it needs some tlc to get it running. Good idea to check first to see if you're up for anything like that.

    8. theres a great support community for any linux os. You will need to ';Read the fine manual'; if you are not already familiar with it. in this case, the 'manual' is the online documentation that ius available for every distro, including extensife support forums. familiarise yourself with these as you will need them to learn how to use linux and to make the most of your new os.
Dual Partition your hard drive. Go to ubuntu.com and have a data cd ready. Copy the files from the website to your data cd and insert it into your computer. Linux will begin to install and ask how you would like to partition your hard drive. Do not wipe out vista, you paid for it might as well keep it. Make room for linux, like 10 gigabits of space would be enough.
Hey dude if i am not wrong you want to remove vista and install linux. There is nothing to do much in this case now a days linux is having UI to install linux. Just put the cd on cdrom and start installing while installation it will only ask you to formate the disk.

Select appropriate disk space and then formate it at required file system for linex generaly it's ext3/ext4

I hope it will help you.

    :-)
    1. Delete existing NTFS partition

    2. Boot from LINUX CD

    3. Give option as Automatically partitioned

    4. Automaticall install all packages which you specify

Please don't think it is so easy, but this is simple and best you can understand i believe.
I recommend that you LEARN how to setup a dual-boot with Linux. Do that, run the computer exclusively under Linux for a long-enough period of time that you come to understand Linux, and what you propose to do. Then you LEARN how to remove windoze, after you have figured out how you need to modify grub.

www.google.com is your best source of info for what you propose/want to do. Not yahoo answers.

Apple has announced that systems purchased after June 8th will be allowed to upgrade to Snow Leopard for US$9.95 as part of the Mac OS X Snow Leopard Up-to-Date Program. (Those who don't qualify for the Up-to-Date program will be able to purchase Snow Leopard for US$29 [that's twenty-nine dollars USD].) For the Up-to-Date program you'll need to submit a special form; check out this page on MacRumors: %26lt;%26gt;.http://www.macrumors.com/2009/06/16/apple-details-snow-leopard-up-to-date-program/%26gt;. Changed OS from vista to XP.?

I just changed my operating system on my laptop from vista to xp. Now a bunch of my devices are not working. How do i go about installing drivers for these. Couple of them are called Base System Device, Coprocessor, Ethernet Controller, PCI Device. and so on.Changed OS from vista to XP.?
Your computer manual should have a list of all devices inside your computer. I assume you know how to find a list of your non working devices (System properties---%26gt;Hardware---%26gt;Device Manager)

If you have internet access, find the device manufacturer and download the driver from their support website.

    Or:

Install Driver Genius ( http://www.driver-soft.com/ ). This is a fast way to install and update drivers for all your devices. This is only a trial ware so you can probably install only a few drivers. Search bit torrents. I'm sure there's a full version of it somewhere.Changed OS from vista to XP.?
you can try going to device manager and looking them up online

How to change Mac OS X 10.4.11 to 10.5.0? help me please?

How to update 10.4.11 to 10.5.0? Can some on give me a link for download mac os x 10.5.0? I have search in google and Apple.com but there is no 10.5.0,, Help me,, Thanks..How to change Mac OS X 10.4.11 to 10.5.0? help me please?
Mac OS X v10.5.x is a ';major'; upgrade, meaning it has to be purchased. Upgrades such as 10.4.10 to 10.4.11 are ';minor'; and are free to download, but to upgrade to a new operating system (in your case, 10.4 to 10.5) requires a purchase.

Amazon.com is still selling Leopard (but for some reason they're charging like 4x what they were before Snow Leopard came out). eBay still has Leopard for reasonable prices.

Is your Mac an Intel-based machine or a PowerPC-based one? If Intel, you could buy Snow Leopard for less than $30 at http://www.amazon.com/Mac-version-10-6-S or you could buy the Box Set (which also includes iLife and iWork) at http://www.amazon.com/Mac-Box-2013-Snow- if you don't have an iLife 09 install disk and don't want to lose your iLife programs (because if you're going from Tiger, it's probably best to backup your files and do a clean install by booting into the disk and formatting your hard drive -- either way it's the same Snow Leopard disk and it will install on any Intel Mac). How to change Mac OS X 10.4.11 to 10.5.0? help me please?
I THINK you have to buy it. If I remember correctly, 5.0 is a separate operating system from 4.11.

    if this is windows, the option is called ';install and leave file system intact';

    if this is mac OS, it is ';archive and install';

if you are on linux, you are on your own. go browse a message board and use google to find it. and don't be surprised when they tell you to go read the manual instead of asking them for help.

    Yes there are two ways.

    1. When you put the CD It will ask you do you want to ';format the drive'; or ';install and leave file system intact';

    2. You can install another OS on to ur computer without changing the previous version. It will say '; want to install fresh copy ';

My father was in training to be a soldier but some **** happened between my mom and where he was being trained and he got kicked out. Long story short he started beating my mom when he was back after he thanked her for getting him the hell out of there.

I don't know it took her forever to kick him out but after me being emotionally scarred for a couple years watching it, I didn't miss him, even at a young age. It was probably the best thing that ever happened. He wasn't emotionally available for my mother or myself, and I'm really happy that he got out of our lives when he did because it gave me time to realize that his problems had nothing to do with me.

Mind games are very abusive too, so from my perspective I'd dump him.

Or write them all down on a piece of paper?

Good Luck!Changing OS. Need to preserve favorites %26amp; Bookmarks etc. How?
If you are running XP or Vista you should have a Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.

Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.

Start this on your old computer first, and make sure to mark it as the old computer when it asks.

You will need a way to move the information from pc to pc. I usually use a flash/jump drive, or burn the file it creates to a cd. Have this ready and be sure both pc will support the method you are using.

When it is done remove the item you have saved the file to. Go to the other pc (the new one) and find the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. Be sure to mark that this is the new computer and then it will want you to direct it to the file you saved.

It should pick it up - if it gives and error (sometimes it will), simply try it again from the new computer and pointing to the file again.

    Hope That Helps!

I'd just back up your entire ';My Documents'; folder to CD. You probably want to clear out your web cache first though. No need in backing that stuff up and it could very easily be a gig or more of stuff. After you get your new OS laid down, you should be able to either import or copy it back over.

But how can i format the old OS (Vista) of it and make the HDD clean.

Is there a way to do it in the BIOS?Formating Hard Drive in Laptop (Changing OS's)?
firstly... the Cd has a formatting option when you install the OS ... secondly if you stop the formatiing while its doing its job, you can harm your drive... so dont stop it... but I would put in a boot disc and make sure there is no bad sectors on the HDD before you do that... put the disc into the CD-ROM drive and let windows install to load, it should give you an option to enter a repair console by typing R after the modules are loaded.. when you are in the repair console type in chkdsk /f /r C:\ in a command line... and enter... that should tell you if you have bad sectors the reason you want to do that is to make sure your HDD is not going bad before you install your OS... it would be foolish to install and OS and find out that your drive is going bad... ahahhahaha... but all you need to really do is put the disc into the CD or DVD drive, and its easier than tying your shoelaces an idiot can do it :PFormating Hard Drive in Laptop (Changing OS's)?
when you boot to the cd erase it will ask what partition you want to install it on. chose to delete the partition then create a new partition.

You can not do it. The Treo 700P and the Treo 700W series all have parts that are proprietary to the OS related to each device.

Put the Treo you have now up for sale on eBay and then buy the Palm based version.I have a Treo 700wx running on Windows Mobile 5, but i want to change my OS to Palm... how do i do that?

Can I change my OS to Vista?

I am running a microsoft windows XP professional Service Pack 2, Intel Pentium D, CPU 2.80 GHz, 128 MB of RAM. Can I upgrade to Windows Vista? and can I change my OS even if theres a virus named WLCtrl32.dll i my present OS? And how?Can I change my OS to Vista?
Get rid of that virus and get yourself anouther ton of ram because the 128 mb of ram is'nt enough to make the computer screen blink. Can I change my OS to Vista?
No, you need more RAM. Vista is very resource hungry - you'll need at least 1 GB to run Vista even semi-well.

    Run this:

    To check everything else.

Then when you're OK, purchase a Vista Licence:

    and install!
No, your computer will have a massive heart attack if you install vista on that thing. Keep xp, there's no reason to switch to Visita at this point.
you need more RAM, at least 512 to work and 1 GB ... to move better....
remember that at your currentt OS, you have the minimum requirement for it. XP usually recommends at around 512 mb. VISTA on the other hand requires a dual core processor and at least 1 gb of memory to run.
The answer is NO. Basically you needed a 500Mb of RAM or 1Gb of RAM as recommended so that you can run the Vista smoothly on your PC.

It is better if you can just upgrade your RAM to the minimum or recommended specification of RAM for Vista.

If you want to get rid of the virus only just search the virus name in Yahoo or Google. Usually there will be some forums on how to get rid of your virus.
You've got a fairly good system there with the exception of that virus.

Changing to Vista would require formatting your hard drive and that procedure would eliminate the virus. But then again, so would reinstalling your Windows XP and formatting the hard drive.

Vista would cost you a couple of hundred dollars or more for a license so why not buy extra RAM for your system and have that XP PRO SP2 scream!

    Sarge
No, your computer just isn't strong enough.

You should also really get rid of that virus... If your anti-virus software can't do for you, then you should think about reformatting and reinstalling your OS.

    Follow this guide to reformat:

WARNING! You will lose all data are you harddrive that is not backed-up to another location.
you gotta need more ram for that. But you can give a look of vista by downloading vista transformation pack which completely transforms your xp to vista(visually) .You can download it from here

Yes, it's been done. You should talk to your school's international student office about how long they thing it will take.

The huge drawback is that if you leave the USA during a break in school you cannot come back. You will have to apply for an F-1 outside the USA.

Do NOT stay in the USA past the departure date on your I-94 unless you have been approved to stay.Did any one applied for a change of status from tourist to f-1 visa while here in the us and has been approved?
this happens, and can work. you should get the school to help you apply for the visa, you should be able to show that you can support yourself while in school.. you should be albe show bank accounts with money in them.

  • Can I change back to Linux fom Xp on my Asus eee 900pc?

I bought an asus eee 900 20gb from Hong Kong and got windows xp loaded. but i can't get sound to work, and don't really need the xp as i have another laptop with it loaded as well as a mac G5 and a powerbook. really only wanted the eee for travelling light and with Linux the kids could enjoy it too. So does anyone know how and if i can change Os back?

Eee came with Linux recovery dvd and support cd for xp(not tried either) No time yet! Or how to get sound to work? Can I change back to Linux fom Xp on my Asus eee 900pc?
Yes you can install Linux back on thier with that DVD it came with or you can install or you can install an Ubuntu Linux optimized for the EEE and is much more feature rich.

The drivers for Windows can be found on Asus's website and has newer versions than what is on the CD.

Personally I use tiny XP which is a modified Windows XP on mine, fits down to less than half a gig with full functionality. Can I change back to Linux fom Xp on my Asus eee 900pc?

How can i change the OS of my Asus EEE PC from Linux to Windows?

i don't have a cd rom, neither do i have a plan of buying one. can i just use a flash drive in changing the OS? help! How can i change the OS of my Asus EEE PC from Linux to Windows?
No you cannot use a Flash drive to install Windows. Even if you were able to boot a Flash drive with XP setup on it, the setup program wouldn't know how to find itself, because it thinks it needs to be on a CD. You could try cloning the partition from another XP install, but it might invalidate itself when it redetects all the hardware.

It's a bad idea anyway. XP performs very badly on the Eee PC. By the time you get XP tweaked to a usable state, you could have learned to use Xandros. How can i change the OS of my Asus EEE PC from Linux to Windows?
Find a friend who has an external CD/DVD drive. It is quite easy to install Windows on the Eee, and Windows actually runs well on the Eee. It is no speed demon, but for what you are supposed to be working on with the Eee, it is just fine. You won't be doing Adobe CS2 or gaming on the Eee, but anything intensive would run poorly on the Eee regardless of the operating system. Word processing, web surfing, and IM work fine. One thing I suggest doing is using nLite to slim down your Windows installation. Just be judicious in what components you choose to eliminate. When in doubt, keep the component in question intact and do not tell nLite to remove it from the install
