How can i revert to Windows XP?

right, i have an unregistered version of Windows Vista on my laptop and i want to change my OS back to XP, trouble is, on boot up options it only lists Windows Vista.

Any Tips? How can i revert to Windows XP?
When you installed Vista it looks like you also replaced your XP installation.

You have to insert you XP CD and boot from it in order to reinstall XP.

Once you do an upgrade the only way back is to reinstall the O/S, and any other software you use.

Probably not what you want to hear but it is the answer.

No. You can absolutely keep your operating system installed. Just swap out the old card for the new, boot into Windows, install the driver and you're done.
Follow the instructions that come with the card! Do they tell you to un-install the operating system? Noooooooooo!
Johnny M. Lol.

if you have still not bought the video card, tell us your specs and monitor size, maybe you save a few bucks and we can tell you what card you should buy. The 4890 from asus seems sweet. Cheaper as well. of course it less powerful, but still an upgrade from 4850.
NOooooooooooooooo, lol. Just make sure the power is off and unplug the power cord. Then take out the old one and push the new one firmly all the way in. Install the drivers(cd). It's also a good idea to go to the website of the mfg. of the video card in case the driver has updates. Hook up the monitor and turn it on-that's it.

Here are some options for installing or trying out Linux

    Option One (Full installation)

I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 8 Main Edition which is built upon Ubuntu 9.10 Its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled

    Linux Mint 8 Download

    http://www.howtoforge.com/the-perfect-de

Linux Mint 8 Helena User Guide

    http://www.scribd.com/doc/23787138/Linux

You download the ISO. image of Linux Mint 8 then you need to create a Bootable LiveCD for installation

Linux Mint 8 can also be run direct from the LiveCD from Booting up without touching your Hard Drive

Option Two (Install Linux inside Windows)

Installing Ubuntu as a dual-boot with Windows without partitioning

    http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/wubi

You keep Windows as it is, Wubi only adds an extra option to boot into Ubuntu. Wubi does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader, and does not install special drivers. It works just like any other application.

Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and if you do not like it, you can simply uninstall it as any other application.

Boot in to windows insert the Ubuntu 10.04 LiveCD and you will offered the option of installing inside windows which is where the Wubi installer comes in, you will be asked how many gigabytes you wish to allocate to Ubuntu (I recommend 8gb) then you set a password for your installation then click install and thats it.

Once Ubuntu is fully installed upon starting your PC you will be given a choice of which operating system you want to use Windows or Ubuntu

    Ubuntu 10.04 Download

    http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) User Guide

    http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Lucid

Linux Mint 9 has a similar feature called mint4win and the directions given above for Wubi can be followed

    http://duncsweb.com/2009/09/27/mint4win-

    Linux Mint 9 Download

    http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=

Ubuntu 10.04 and Linux Mint 9 can also be run straight from the LiveCD without touching your Hard drive

    Option Three (LiveCD)

Here the possibilities are endless as you can try out as many different Linux distros. until you find the one thats right for you DISTROWATCH.COM gives full listings (second lists the major distributions)

Linux is good if u need pc for specfic perpose

like browsing internet, open office and play media

but id u wanna play games u hav to hav windows

U can keep both linux and xp together on one computer by using 2 hard disk partations like C: and D: drive

while installing linux it will ask you in which drive to install, u may need to format tht drive at the time of install
you just go google and type xp to linux you get lot of points there
You just install Linux by formatting your XP window or you can also both windows in your computer for that you need more partitions in your hard disk.It format that partition at first time .

Its a secure window and also virus free as compare to XP windows and fast.

How can you dowanload mac os x on a laptop?

i dont have enough money to buy a mac, and i just bought my laptop. i really need to change it the os x, please help me!

by the way, those websites i didnt understand so can u guys put in a easier way?How can you dowanload mac os x on a laptop?
You don't. OS X is only available for Intel Macs as a boxed copy purchased from stores.

OS X can only be installed on Mac hardware - doing anything else breaks the EULA with Apple.

OS X won't install in PCs because Windows uses different firmware. As to getting a Mac - try Apple refurbished or MacMall who often do cheaper Macs. How can you dowanload mac os x on a laptop?
It is possible but it is illegal to put mac osx on a Windows laptop UNLESS you own a copy of OSX. you will need a copy of osx that is patch for intel or amd processors. And you are still going to have problems with audio and video. If your laptop has WiFi it isn't going to work either unless you are able to find a driver.

There are copys of osx on the web such as Kalyway leopard which is patch for Intel. And Zephiroth for AMD once downloaded it will be in one big file, you will need a blank DVD to burn the image.

Once that is done load the disk into the computer, restart then boot from the disk and they may also include video and audio drivers.

Steps to install is at this site http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=85573

for AMD but unless you have intel just follow the steps with a copy patched for intel.

It may lead to other problems after installation such as unable to boot or not even being able access osx. but it would just be easyer to buy a mac because you may ruin your laptop by doing this.
If you read Daniel S [what does the S stand for?] carefully, you will find that the process is for Village Idiots and will never be a Mac. If you want a Mac, Buy A Mac.

    hi there

Check first if your hardware capable of Windows Vista OS. Then buy Windows Vista CD.
If your Laptop has P4 1GB RAM and 40 gb Hard Drive then you can Install Windows Vista.
There really isn't that much of a difference. It looks different, that's about it. It's not worth the $200. I'm saying that and I'm using Vista now. The only reason I upgraded was I got a new computer. If you are just sick of the XP look you can theme it with windowblinds and make it look like just about anything, including Vista. http://www.stardock.com/products/windowb

first buy an genuine windows vista cd

    now ud have 2 options

u can have 2 operating systems installed (multiboot)

just reformat ur hdd and create 2 partitions and install xp on one partition

    and vista on the other

and if u really wanna just have vista

then i suggest u backup all ur personal files to an external hdd storage

or dvd(if yu wanna keep some files )

    then reformat ur hdd

    then install vista

    but before upgrading to vista

i suggest you research on your current hardware

to see if vista will run stable and fast on it

I happen to be installing a security update on my Mac in the background so this question really caught my eye. If you could break into a user account on a Mac via network, it would make headlines all over the Internet and Apple would be scrambling to plug that security hole. I hope you find the way to do it but only if the violated person notices what you have done before they lose any valuable info such as financial account passwords or social security number and then goes screaming to the police or Apple or both. That will spur Apple to plug the security hole and I will feel safer.

Switching from Vista to XP on a HP laptop ?

Hi, I have decided to change to OS to windows XP, mainly for gaming reasons, since my laptop is not strong enough to run Vista and some games properly. What do I need to download first ? Some drivers ? I haven't got any cds with my laptop so I don't know how the PC will work after the reinstalation. Please give me some tips.Switching from Vista to XP on a HP laptop ?
If you get the Service pack 2 installation for XP you will be fine for installing. After that you will prob need to find manufacturer drivers for all of your devices. I would look at HP's support website and find out what kind of net card you have in your laptop first so you can get the driver and install it after you get XP on it. That way youll have internet to get the rest of the dirvers that you need.

Video card will work without drivers, it will just default to a standard VGA adapter.

If you dont get the SP2 XP installation and your hard drive is SATA, then it might not detect it.

Other than those 2 quirks, you will be set to go.Switching from Vista to XP on a HP laptop ?
You need to backup any documents, songs, photos, videos, etc. before you install XP.

Installing XP will wipe everything off the drive.

All you need to do, after you backup all your stuff, is put the XP disc in the CD ROM drive and restart the computer.

XP will show a screen asking if you want to install or repair. Pick install and in about 3 hours you will have XP!

If you installed any 3rd party software, like games or photo editing software, you will have to reinstall them.

    It's that simple.
Go to http://www.hp-forums.com to download drivers and discuss your machine for in depth answers through interaction with other users.

    1. Boot Ubuuntu.

    sudo gpedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

The menu.lst file is where you change what is in the boot menu.
Using a GUI text editor on an important system file like this is just WRONG. (This is with regards to the people above me telling you to use gpedit)

Open a terminal and type the following:

    sudo su

    nano -w /boot/grub/menu.lst

Scroll down to the bottom and rearrange the order of the blocks into the order you want them to be displayed. Make sure to grab the entire block, like this:

    title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.26-1-amd64

    root (hd0,0)

    kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.26-1-amd64 root=UUID=330dd97e-e29a-4d65-948c-147aa9?ro

    initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.26-1-amd64

Use ctrl+k to cut lines and ctrl+u to paste them. Ctrl + X to quit and save the file.

    Unfortunately, you cannot.

The hardware required to run Windows Mobile 5/6 has higher requirements than Pocket PCs designed to run Windows Mobile 2003.

On top of this, without a cooked ROM package specifically designed for your PPC, you would be left without driver support, leaving your touchscreen, microphone, wifi radio, etc. useless.

*Note: Windows Mobile 7 is not set to release until 2010, and will certainly not be compatible with your iPAQ.

How can I change my default OS?

I recently made two partitions on my hard-drive to install Ubuntu and XP. My main OS is(was) Vista. I had Vista installed on C:, Ubuntu installed on D: and just installed XP on E:. Now whenever my computer boots it loads the only OS available on E:, which, as I've explained, is XP. I can't delete or format the partition while it's active, so I can't go back to Vista and I can't access my applications on C:(Which is obviously my main partition and has most of the hard-drive space).

    How can I fix this?

Also, I've tried going into My Computer properties to change it. It's not in the list and I don't think I can system restore, but here's the startup file if that helps:

You have to do it in the BIOS. When you start up your computer press F2, F8 or F12 and it should let you into the BIOS. navigate around a little and maybe you'll find it
when your computer boots up push F12 over and over till a boot screen comes up it should ask the question ';boot from?'; and then a list of drives will come up
when you boot up try pressing F12 (or whatever it is that brings up the BIOS) and change the order in harddrive priority.

How do I change the operating system on my Red Fox Wizbook N1020i from Ubuntu to Windows?

I recently received a Red Fox Wizbook N1020i for Christmas, and when I started it up, turns out the operating system is Ubuntu, not Windows like I was expecting. I've been trying for hours now how to figure out how to work Ubuntu, but I'm getting tired of trying to find the applications I supposedly downloaded, and looking for ways to change the password for the keyring.

Now I've decided that, just to make my life easier (seeing as it doesn't look like I'll be getting the hang of Ubuntu any time soon), to just change the OS to Windows 7.

Since the Wizbook is a netbook, it doesn't have an optical drive. My brother said I could save Windows 7 onto a USB flashdisk using a different laptop and then use that to install Windows onto my netbook.

Could anyone give me the steps to doing this procedure? Thanks!

Find a computer with a disk drive

But I think that installing Ubuntu might have altered my hard drive somehow, as now XP will not install from a disk. Any help would be much appreciated, please shed some light on how I can get XP back, thanks!I have installed Ubuntu, but now wish to change back to XP... How?

How?
    ubuntu is better so don't
Put the XP disk in the drive and restart the computer. If it tells you to press any key to boot from CD, press a key. Follow the instructions. You'll have to make a new partition (use the entire drive) and format it.

Once Windows is running, you can put the Ubuntu disk back in and install Ubuntu as a dual boot (so at startup you can choose which one - Windows or Ubuntu - you want).

Use the Ubuntu forums http://ubuntuforums.org/ as a resource.
Why not give Ubuntu a decent trial, say 7 days? It's different to Windoze, true, but after a short while, like me, you will grow to realise how much better it really is. No viruses, no malware, and it runs like greased lightning. All software is free, nothing to pay for. If you don't like Ubuntu, there are plenty of other Linux distros to try, Mint is especially good for newbies fresh from Windoze.

Have a look here, http://distrowatch.com/ for news and downloads to all the Linux distros.
Hmmm you probably need to format your whole hard drive , i reccomend you use gparted , just download it and then boot from it . ten format ur HDD and try again , if that dont work download hirens boot cd and use the hdd tools on their

    Installing New OS on Netbook?

I just bout the Acer One Netbook from Office Depot but have found Best Buy to have one their Compaqs in stock with a larger HDD for only $30 more. The extra space never hurts, and I really dislike the awkward sized touch pad on the Acer, so I'd really like to find a different netbook than the Acer but the problem with the Compaq is that it comes with Windows 7 Starter.

That considered, I'll have to either install XP or 7 Home... How difficult will this be? I don't imagine it being too difficult or time consuming to get the files prepared and put onto a USB flash drive to install onto netbook after partitioning drive and all that but my main concern is other things such as drivers for components and the like.

Are there certain drivers and other pre-installed software that I'll need to reinstall after the change of OS and if so, how will I go about getting those needed drivers and other wares? Obviously I'm not concerned about the junk that will be preloaded on the book but it's the crucial things. (Last time I fully reinstalled XP on my main laptop due to a virus I was unprepared and it took forever to get all the drivers replaces). Any thoughts?Installing New OS on Netbook?
    What you'll need:

    USB_PREP8 http://www.2shared.com/file/2581432/a65c

    PeToUSB http://www.2shared.com/file/2581436/a131

    Bootsect.exe http://www.2shared.com/file/2585881/5ad9

Special Note: If you use the program Nlite be sure to keep the manual installation files as the USB_prep8 script relies on these files.

    Extract the files in Bootsect.zip

The next step is to extract USB_prep8 and PeToUSB.

Next copy the PeToUSB executable into the USB_prep8 folder.

Inside of the USB_prep8 folder double click the executable named usb_prep8.cmd.

    Press any key to continue

These settings are preconfigured for you all you need to do now is click start.

Once the format is complete DO NOT close the window just leave everything as it is and open a command prompt from your start menu (type cmd in the search bar or run box depending on your version of windows.).

Inside of the command windows go to the directory you have bootsect.exe saved.

(use the cd directoryname command to switch folders)

Now type ';bootsect.exe /nt52 R:'; NOTE R: is the drive letter for my USB stick if yours is different you need to change it accordingly. What this part does is write the correct boot sector to your USB stick, this allows your PC to boot from the USB stick without it nothing works.

Please note: When running the bootsect.exe command you cannot have any windows open displaying the content of your USB stick, if you have a window open bootsect.exe will be unable to lock the drive and write the bootsector correctly.

    If all went well you should see ';Bootcode was successfully updated on all targeted volumes.';

Now you can close this command prompt (don't close the usbprep8 one by mistake) and the petousb window.

You window you see now should look like this:

If it doesn't try pressing enter.

Now you need to enter the correct information for numbers 1-3.

Press 1 and then enter. A folder browse window will open for you to browse to the location of you XP setup files (aka your cdrom drive with xp cd in)

Press 2 and enter a letter not currently assigned to a drive on your PC

Press 3 and enter the drive letter of your USB stick

Press 4 to start the process.

The script will ask you if its ok to format drive T:. This is just a temp drive the program creates to cache the windows installation files. Press Y then enter.

Once it's done formating press enter to continue again, you can now see the program copying files to the temp drive it created. Once this is done press enter to continue again.

Next you will see a box pop up asking you to copy the files to USB drive yes/no you want to click yes.

Once the script has completed copy files a popup window asking if you would like to USB drive to be preferred boot drive U: select YES on this window.

Now select yes to unmount the virtual drive.

Ok we are done the hard part, close the usbprep8 window.

Now make sure your PC is configured with USB as the primary boot device.

Insert your USB drive and boot up the PC.

On the startup menu you have two options, select option number 2 for text mode setup.

From this point on it is just like any other windows XP installation delete/recreate the primary partition on your PC and format it using NTFS. Make sure you delete ALL partitions and recreate a single partition or you will get the hal.dll error message.

Once the text mode portion of setup is complete it will boot into the GUI mode (you can press enter after the reboot if your too excited to wait the 30 seconds)

Once the GUI portion of setup is complete you will again have to boot into GUI mode this will complete the XP installation and you will end up at you XP desktop. It is very important that you DO NOT REMOVE THE USB STICK before this point. Once you can see your start menu it is safe to remove the usb stick and reboot your PC to make sure everything worked.

This method has advantages over all current no cdrom methods of installing XP to a PC. You do not have to copy setup files in DOS to the SSD and install from there. It gives you access to the recovery console by booting into text mode setup, and it gives you the ability to run repair installations of XP if you have problems later on.Installing New OS on Netbook?
Save your self the trouble and spend a little extra on a external Dvd drive
Look, downgrading is sometimes not a good thing. Depending on how NEW this laptops hardware is, you may be stuck trying to find drivers to work with it on winxp. Winxp is really outdated now and I do not recommend it. I would upgrade to home or vista mabey. Either way, upgrading and downgrading is very easy. Usually if you have cd just follow instructions and you should be on your way. Then download available drivers from acer. Another issue is activation for xp. If you have used an older cd and trying to put that on new acer microsoft will ask you key questions and if you answer wrong they will not activate windows. 30 days then its gone........ Dont downgrade.

Possibly the grub (beta) version isn't the whole package yet.

I would try a forum site, like Linux Mint forums they are the real deal and would be more likely to be able to answer your question.

    Need OS Help Please?

I was trying to wipe the HD and change the OS to XP from 2000. I did a new install and now its got both OS how do i remove the 2000?Need OS Help Please?
Nuke the whole drive with DBAN (Darik's Nuke And Boot) and reinstall XP. To use DBAN, burn it to a disc, put the disc in the drive and reboot your machine. When the DBAN interface comes up on the screen, type ';autonuke';. This will automate the erasing process. Once this is done (it can take a couple of hours depending on the size of your HD), remove the disc from the drive, reboot the machine and insert the XP cd to reinstall it.Need OS Help Please?
Very interesting dilemma! If you formatted the HD prior to the install, it cannot possibly have 2 OS systems running? Try it again. Format the drive first, making sure nothing is on there before you install the new OS.
in the blue setup page it asked you to create a new partition and format the old one and you did not, so now you have two partitions. You can reinstall XP again and delete all partitions and get one Operating system and a clean HD.

    OS boot question/problem?

I have boot question regarding OS, how do I change which OS to boot first or remove an option.

also the timer to choose which OS to choose is too fastOS boot question/problem?
    For windows Xp

    -Right Click ';My Computer';

    -Properties

    -Click ';Advanced'; tab

    -Under ';System and Recovery'; click ';settings';

    -Click ';Edit';

a notepad will open up after that

    now create a back up

    -click ';file'; then ';save as';

-then save on a different location where you can easily find it later if needed.

    now to edit the settings

    To change the Boot Timer:

edit this (# = how many seconds to boot)

    [boot loader]

    timeout=#

To change which OS loads first:

edit this (# = either 1 or 2 depending on which partition will load first)

    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partiti?br>

    To delete an OS:

under [operating systems] you will see two lines somewhat like this

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WI?Windows XP Professional'; /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

one will have partition(1) and the other partition(2)

first test which partition is the one you need by doing finding it out which loads which (see my guide on which OS loads first)

when you find out which OS you'll be keeping, delete or erase the other line

when you boot your system again, the other option will be gone.OS boot question/problem?
Would be helpful to know what your system is and what OS's.

    If Win XP:

Log into the install you wish to keep and edit your Boot.ini file.

As for the timer it is usually set to 30sec. by default. This is also changeable in the Boot.ini file when you edit it....

Remove the offending lines from your boot.ini (just get the right

    ones), back it up first.

    Then remove the extra OS's.

You can Format each partition..select the partition with the un needed OS and delete it.

My V3700 Compaq Presario Vista home basic OS laptop is change to Windows XP OS. But now there is no audio / sound being detected. I check the computer device manager for audio but theres no question mark on it. Please help me what to do. ThanksHow to repair no audio/sound for vista changed to winXP OS for laptop?
Make sure your Sound Driver isn't disabled; it may have inadvertently disabled itself during shutdown:

Go to Device Manager (Start%26gt; RightClick My Computer%26gt; Properties%26gt; Hardware Tab%26gt; Device Manager) and right click on your sound driver and choose enable. If not, try updating the driver, which will effectively restore it to factory settings if there's an update available.

If you don't know the name of you Sound Driver, so to Start%26gt; Run%26gt; dxdiag. Now go to the Sound Tab and any sound hardware installed is listed.

If that still doesn't work, the driver may have been uninstalled. If so, go to your computer's manufacturer's website and go to the ';Support'; section. There should be a link for drivers. You will need to know your computer's model, but once you enter that it will give you an option to download any missing drivers. Just find the Sound Driver and install it.

    Boot Camp, right?

You didn't follow the instructions properly. The Windows partition must be Fat 32 or NTFS. You chose to format it as GPT.

So, start over with Boot Camp. How to change mac book OS X's partition style to GPT partition style?
Are you using Boot Camp? The partition the Boot Camp creates is formatted for Windows and works fine.

If you DID use Boot Camp and are still having problems, use Boot Camp again to remove the current partition and start over.

Change the xp os to vista?

hey can i change my winxp prof to a new one os like vista or linux? can you teach me how or what should i do? tnxChange the xp os to vista?
you're can switch windows XP to windows vista in:http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsChange the xp os to vista?
first you should see if vista is compatible with your pc or laptop..
for a windows OS, you need to buy a windows CD, ether a full bootable program or an upgrade disk. Then just insert the cd, reboot the computer, and follow the on screen prompts. The same is true with a linux disk, although it is suggest to install them on a separate partition while still in windows if you plan on doing a dual boot instead of overwriting XP.

If rebooting the computer to the new OS setup screen, then set the bios to check the cd before the hard drive for a bootable program.

PS: before upgrading to vista, I suggest getting the vista upgrade adviser to make sure your computer is compatible with vista. You have no idea what problems you could avoid by doing this. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai
you go to a store like best buy and buy windows vista i always thought linuex was a computer system like windows am i right
Trust me! You don't want to do that. Sure Vista has some nice features, but XP Pro is more stable and prone from crashes. Vista has been a nightmare fore millions of users. Do yourself a favor and wait till the next Windows OS is released, hopefully they will have learned their lesson. I always give a new OS a few months before I install it. Look what happened with Windows ME also.

The main thing to ask yourself is, what are you going to use your system for? If you want to avoid viruses and stability, then look to Linux. But there are numerous disadvantages to that also. The multimedia is not at good and you options for gaming will be greatly demised.

Make a list of what you do on your computer, then rank what you like to do the most. Then match that up with the strengths and weaknesses of each OS to give you a clearer picture.

    Best of Luck!
honestly I think that U can change it, U would probably have to uninstall the current software, and then install the new one, but I've heard that people have a lot of problems with Vista.

Note that 10.4 goes up to 10.4.11. Go to the Apple logo in the upper left of your screen and click on Software Updates. Windows 7 screen resolution?

I have recently upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 and have a question about the new screen resolution. Windows 7's recommended resolution for my monitor is 1600 x 900, but that makes everything too small to read. The one I had with Vista was ideal, but isn't an option on 7. When I go down to 1360 x 768, the size is fine, but everything is blurry. I made everything 125% larger, but that makes everything too large.

Another issue is the internet. I use Chrome for my browser, and I love it. When using it on Vista, it was perfect, but now with 7, no matter which resolution I select, everything in Chrome is too small. Even when things are 125% or 150% larger, Chrome still displays things too small. There are those sidebars along every website, which are extremely annoying, and weren't there before I changed OS.

I know it's got to be because of the resolution, but none of the resolutions make things big enough and clear at the same time... D:

As a new 7 user, I'm not sure how to fix this correctly. If anyone has any ideas, please help :D

And as a little tiny question, does anyone know how to get rid of those preview windows when you hover over something in the taskbar?

    Thanks :DWindows 7 screen resolution?
the screen resolution is only regarding the desktop and other application

so if you want the larger fond so keep the resolution low of 1024by768

it will surely resolve your problemWindows 7 screen resolution?
    1. Try checking to see if there is either an update for your monitor through manufacturer's website or windows update. Hopefully that allows you to re-adjust the monitor to a lower resolution.

It may also help to adjust refresh rate of monitor as well.

Having 2 hard drives in a laptop is rare, I have seen them in very expensive alienware notebooks. You most likely had 2 partitions on one drive and when you formatted you wiped the entire drive including partitions. You would need to set up partions again if you need them.

edit: Interesting, so you installed xp to the second drive/partition? It sounds like your partition table is corrupt or just gone. You can use a program called testdisk to try and restore/rebuild it. http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

edit: I was gonna suggest that, but you threw me off with the recent formatting. Well at least it is solved.

Type ';Disk management'; into the start menu and select the first one (create and format partitions). Have a look for your 2nd disk there and you can re-format it from there if you see it.

So last night i shut my computer down and it started to install some updates, and then the power when off, just for a second, the computer turned off and i left it off and didn't think any more of it. Went to turn it on this morning and now it freezes on the Windows logo with the loading bar underneath it. And doesn't do anything no matter how long i leave it.

Ive tried everything i can think of or find to do and i just don't know what to try now.

Ive backed up my all my files as i can get on using safe mode. So i would just like to be able to reinstall windows.

Ive tried booting from the windows disc but when it gets to starting setup or something like that, it blue-screens and i have to restart it.

Ive tried running a disc check but when i restart it comes up with the option to run setup mode, which always blue-screens, or start normally which just freezes on the windows logo and loading bar without doing a check.

This is on a iMac running bootcamp, if i could just get to my Mac OS X partition i would be happy, ive tried the normal why or changing OS in safe mode but it says i dont have privileges even on Admin.

Blue screen errors are nearly always hardware issues, It's usually a bad hardware driver which keeps the computer hanging, something which maybe installed during Windows Update. I rarely use safe mode, but imagine you can uninstall whilst in it. Try uninstalling the most recent updates. System restore is another option, if you use it.
The most likely cause is a bloated registry which has become the home for all kinds of useless bits and pieces of data. Whenever any change is made to the system settings or a program is installed or uninstalled, a new entry is generated in the registry. The operating system while running your computer has to pick its way through all this excess material. There is a multitude of useless bits and pieces to be removed.Parts of uninstalled programs, parts of incompletely installed programs, dead drivers and many other things. clean your registry and remove all the useless data fragments and no longer needed information to fix the errors!I should like to commend Registry Easy (http://www.cleanup-comuter-run-perfectly… to you !
