System will only boot if external HD is attached with other OS how does this change?

HP Pav. dv2000 and i can boot either vista on the internal hd or linux on the external. the problem is when i try to boot my computer with out the external hd attached it comes up with an error message and refuses to let me boot with vista how can i change this so when the external hd is not connected i can boot normally on the internal hd with vista?System will only boot if external HD is attached with other OS how does this change?
You need to change BOOT ORDER in the BIOS. To get to the BIOS it is usually the F1 key on the first opening page when booting the computer,
