The fist step to a successful downgrade/upgrade from Vista to XP is to make sure that you have Drivers for at least the Ethernet (or wireless) so that you can download the rest of the drivers at a later time. You will want to save them to another device (External Hard Drive, Thumb Drive, etc) The Vista drivers often times will not work at all with XP.
After that, you will need a Windows XP installation disk (upgrade will not work). You will need to put it in the DVD drive, and boot from the CD.
Once you have booted from the CD, you will be in the Windows Setup. It will ask a couple questions...you want to Install Windows XP, Agree to the terms...Now it is time to select an installation drive (*note, if no drives are listed it is because you will need to do one of 2 things...Install RAID drivers, or restart, enter BIOS, change the SATA to run as Native IDE instead of RAID then restart setup)
Once you have selected where you want to install to...Windows will ask you if you are sure, because there is another installation of windows. You want to continue here. You will be given a few options. You will want to format the partition. Personally i like to do the slow one...over the quick one...it does a better job.
Windows will then Start copying files. Follow the onscreen prompts. Do as they say (just like installing any other program)
Once Windows is finished installing, You are done with this part of the setup, and can remove the CD.
The next step is Drivers,
Install the Ethernet (or Wireless) drivers that you downloaded before you reformatted the hard drive and saved to an external device. After that, you can install in any order....
Personally i use this order.
1) Download and Install Mozilla Firefox, I never use Internet Explorer except to download Firefox.
2) Download Antivirus Software ...I use AVG Free, i dont believe in paying to have a virus removed that i never paid to get.
3) Download Anti Spyware - I use spybot, or Ad-aware...either is good.
4) Finish Downloading and installing drivers - I only do this AFTER I know i am protected.
5) Install other programs/utilities for my own personal use.How to reformat a laptop?
Well, before you go off... Lots of notebooks with Vista have NO drivers for XP.
If you have 49 Euro to spare, order Mandriva Flash 2009. It is a good substitute for any windows with 3D desktop and usually automatic detection of wireless and setup, great multimedia, including Codeina which plays all ';proprietary'; windows media files, and ... You do not have to install it. It is on an 8G thumb drive and will boot from there and use its own 4G while reading your disk. You can install if you want, but you can use it without installing.
And Mandriva laughs at spyware and viruses and sneers at trojans. No need to have extra software to monitor for them.
And if you want to play windows games--the system accommodates that as well.
get a windows xp cd. i suggest using the professional version.
insert it right after you press the power button on your pc or before you restart your pc. at boot time, the contents of that cd will boot and you should be able to install that yourself because it has the necessary instructions there.
If you haven't formatted a PC earlier then my suggestion is that don't format it by yourself. Get someone who has some experience in formatting. Or you might end up damaging your PC or assigning wrong partitions etc. Also after formatting you will be needing drivers etc too.
And secondly you can't learn the formatting process just online. You need to see and observe then only you can have the perfect knowledge.
So buddy don't take risk and just seek a professional help or ask someone who is well versed in formatting PCs.
i have an acer just like yours just put in the xp cd and restart the comp when it reloads it will start to install then it will ask where you want to put the new windows tell it the c drive it will tell you that it already has a windows program tell it to install any way it will ask if you want to format tell it yes and ppick the format that is not the quick one it should be the 2nd chioce it will format and reboot then it will install the windows just fallow the instruction also you will need to get all the drivers for the laptop you will get them from acer.com if you cant find what you need or need more help email me at jamiethomaz@yahoo.com i will help you find ever driver you need and walk you threw in proublems you may have i format and reinstall windows xp or laptops that had vista on them all the time vista is the worse windows progarm there is it has a lot of problems and cant rum on a lot of laptops the people that make the laptops do not check it after building it they install vista and turn on the computer it runs so the box it and sale it but dont check to see how it will proform
