Upgrading: Hard Drive & RAM?

I've just ordered RAM -max 256MB and 30GB hard drive for my 10 year Compaq Presario. Three things: Do have to update drivers/bio and if so how? Do I have to format the hard drive? I plan to change OS 98 to XP as well. Thanks so much for any info you can provide.Upgrading: Hard Drive %26amp; RAM?
No you don't.

Updating from 98 to XP would require a reformat.

256ram is still very low.Upgrading: Hard Drive %26amp; RAM?
go for 80/160 GB Hard disk and 512 MB RAM this will make you more happy and system stable.you can directly upgrade your machine from windows 98 to windows xp ( no need to format , insert the cd select upgrade option and follow the instructions on screen).
You probably won't have to update your BIOS if your current BIOS supports those specs. If you need to, it depends on who makes your chipset. You shouldn't have to format the new hard drive yourself, XP setup should be able to do that for you.
no there are no drivers that have to be updated. when you switch from 98 to xp you will have to format the drive but if your getting a new hd then just install xp and make a partition
It is much cheaper and easyer to buy a new computer you cant really run xp with just upgrades hd and ram you must have new motherboard to run it efficiently
