Compaq presariov3000 help?

im changing my os from home to xp prof..but i always get an error...does anybody know how to properly install a new changed os..error msg said that hard disk can not be found every tym i try to install xp proff..can anybody help me..thanxCompaq presariov3000 help?
Probably, your notebook is bundled with a SATA hard drive. If yes, then you need to disable SATA and then reinstall the retail version of OS.



You can disable SATA from BIOS.



FYI...If you are disabling SATA... you will not be able to enable it again... unless you reinstall the OEM version of Windows XP OS.Compaq presariov3000 help?
Why would you waste your time on a laptop going from Home to Professional?



You need to access your BIOS and make sure that your Hard Drive is configured properly.



(XP will do the formatting for you after you find your hard drive.)

I also have a Pressario R3000 and have done several reformattings on my hard drive so I will try not to steer you wrong on this.



John's idea is okay but completely unnecessary. Your hard drive is installed properly as long as you haven't tweaked it. I would think that you haven't uninstalled xp home on your drive, which would give you an error similar to the one you are talking about. Use windows uninstaller by inserting the old disk and running startup while in the windows load screen. Here's a site that explains all the steps in both uninstalling and installing windows.

you can do a clean install by inserting the disk and restarting your computer. go into the bios and configure the system to boot from cd. When the system boots from CD, it will enter setup directly and you should be able to install.
