HOW TO STOP P2P Software????

Hi

The P2P is illegal.

How the RIAA or the supreme court can technicly erase p2p from the surface?

By change OS like windows to stop the software code?

physicaly trace %26amp; Unplug the server?

I hear that now software like limewire are not in a central server.

True?

Thank You!HOW TO STOP P2P Software????
If you want to block P2P software from your network, just block all ports on your router except

FTP TCP 20-21

HTTP TCP 80

HTTPS TCP 443

DNS UDP 53

SMTP TCP 25

POP3 TCP 110

Ping ICMP 8

Telnet TCP 23

You may want to open other ports for other services (instant messenger, etc.)

For the rest of the people on the internet, it will be hard to stop them since many people don't understand the risks of file sharing, spyware, viruses, and the rest of the ';bad internet';.

Some people put up advertising files ';get a free ipod... go here'; with the same title of a popular song. Bit Torrent is the most common type of file sharing, probably because it's fast, and distributes a lot of legal files (e.g. Linux, podcasts, etc.). Although there are probably more illegal uses of bit torrent (Pirate Bay, etc.)

Skype is a P2P application that is instant voice/video/text communication. P2P itself is legal, the copyrighted content distribution is illegal.

A lot of new software (such as Limewire) evades copyright laws by not storing files on their servers. P2P will continue even throughout new versions of windows. The only way to stop it would be for Internet Service Provider (ISP) to scan each packet of data that travels through it and to bloc all P2P packets.

A way to get around ISP blocking is encryption. ISPs can not block all encrypted encryption but they can limit it's speed. The perfect ISP would:

Block all P2P default ports

Scan all packets and block P2P packets

Detect ports that P2P traffic is coming from and block them

Slow down all encrypted traffic

This, however would make many people upset and they would switch companies. Therefore, ISPs don't do everything they can do to prevent p2p (some just slow down default ports and bit torrent traffic).

Unfortunately, the RIAA or the Supreme court can do just about nothing (except sue everybody) for their activities.

In short:

The RIAA or the Supreme Court will never erase P2P from the surface.

No (Os change will do nothing)

Yes (that happened to the Pirate Bay)

Yes (limewire does not use a central server)HOW TO STOP P2P Software????
Hello Corey Q,

What do you think of the company called safemedia.com. They claim that blocking ports and IPs wont stop P2P. And Firewalls can not stop encrypted stuff.

The p2p programs are not illegal...it's the content that people share is illegal..
Technically the act of using Limewire/Kazaa/Morpheus or any other P2P file sharing system IS PERFECTLY LEGAL. However, the act of sharing copyrighted music is what the authorities will prosecute for, as you are allowing other users to download something which they should pay for, for free.

The act of downloading music which is being shared by other users, is illegal, however the authorities will prosecute those who are sharing a ';significant amount of music'; - like drugs they will go after the DEALERS not the USERS.
