i have vista 64 bit.
if i do need to uninstall it how do i reinstall it? because when i first setup the computer, it just automatically installed windows vista. no disk or anything.

Use Add/Remove Program to uninstall old ATI display driver and Catalyst Control Center
Reboot
Cancel found new hardware wizard
Shutdown
Replace video card.
Restart
Cancel found new hardware wizard.
Install latest ATI driver and Catalyst Control Center

No. You can absolutely keep your operating system installed. Just swap out the old card for the new, boot into Windows, install the driver and you're done.
Follow the instructions that come with the card! Do they tell you to un-install the operating system? Noooooooooo!

if you have still not bought the video card, tell us your specs and monitor size, maybe you save a few bucks and we can tell you what card you should buy. The 4890 from asus seems sweet. Cheaper as well. of course it less powerful, but still an upgrade from 4850.
NOooooooooooooooo,lol. Just make sure the power is off and unplug the power cord. Then take out the old one and push the new one firmly all the way in. Install the drivers(cd). It's also a good idea to go to the website of the mfg. of the video card in case the driver has updates. Hook up the monitor and turn it on-that's it.
