How to change OS from windows vist to windows xp professional?

Unfortunately, MS has not provided a downgrade path for their OS's. I think you are asking if you don't have to do a full install from scratch. Unfortunately, I have not heard of any way to just downgrade. Therefore, you will just have to byte the bullet. I did a dual boot when I wanted to test Vista Ultimate. I didn't like it so I just took out that drive. I still have Ultimate sitting on the shelf. I don't have any plans on using it any time soon either. I am happier running XP.

Some companies do offer a way to get an XP license if you bought a machine with Vista on it. Though those need to have the higher end versions of Vista on them. If you have a newer machine you could call the vendor and ask if they have that available. How to change OS from windows vist to windows xp professional?
Purchase a Windows XP licence and media. Boot from the media.
Hi,

Get a WinXP Pro CD. Backup any doucments %26amp; mail. Insert the XP CD, when it asks if you want to replace your present operating system say 'yes'. This will reformat the drive and install XP. Remember you'll also need your Sony notebook driver disk after intalling XP.
Buy a copy of XP pro, put it into your computer cd drive, and boot it. Follow the prompts, and reformat the partition that has the vista installation, then load XP there.

Make sure that there are XP drivers for all your components, first.

If that is too intimidating to you, you need to have someone do it for you.

If you found this helpful, I would appreciate it if you would please go to www.thirdeyegear.com and give us an opinion of our t-shirt designs. Ask your friends to go there too. Please do not go there if you are easily offended. If you need to you can contact me thru the ';info'; link. The site is clean, nothing will happen to your computer. We just need opinions.

I didn't see either ANSWER mention that in order to format your hard drive and successfully install WINDOW XP PRO, you will need an authentic XP Product ID Key bec installation %26amp; registration will not occur, rather a message will give you telephone number asking you to call MICROSOFT and they will offer authentic product key for $59.95

I know bec I have 3 DELL Notebook PCs: Inspiron E1505/6400, Latitude D620 and Latitude D800 all came with Windows XP and have upgraded to larger hard drives twice: the first larger SATA hard drive I bought on EBAY and then using my DELL CDs, I didn't have any problem loading Windows XP with the Product ID on the Dell Notebook PC

But the older DELL Notebook which required the older IDE/ATA 100 drive, when I tried using the Windows XP Product Key, it was rejected for no good reason and when I spoke to Microsoft, they said I had 2 choices: buying the Product Key for $59.95 or talk to Dell Tech Support (thinking I was okay with Dell Windows CDs and the Product ID affixed to my Dell Notebook) but I encountered problems with registration and Dell washed their hands and said I needed to buy their hard drive from them. By the way, anyway don't pay more than about $60 bec that is the price that MICROSOFT offered to sell the Product Key/ID but myself I prefer the actual authentic software CD and never have bought a download..

Anyway after you do successfully install %26amp; register, then prepare yourself for numerous Windows XP updates to download incl the monster SP2...

Hope the Above Info Helps and Best of Luck!
Depending on how new the laptop is. You wouldn't be able to downgrade from Vista to XP. In response to the people saying that you just insert the disk into the computer and install XP over Vista. That does not work since most of the components are made just for Vista.
Be careful about doing this I lost my operating system on laptop and no recovery DVDs XP needs scsi drivers for sony to load
